108: NFL Draft Preview, Ziggy Style
Monday Apr 22, 2013
Monday Apr 22, 2013
Adam and Matt love the NFL Draft, and this year they get to spend most of their draft preview talking about Ezekiel Ansah and where they think he will land. Is he a one-year-wonder who's going to flame out, or an impact player who's going to make multiple Pro Bowl teams? They discuss, trying to not just look through their blue-colored glasses. They also talk about the NFL prospects of Braden Brown, Braden Hansen, Uona Keveinga and Brandon Ogletree. Besides the Cougars, they also tackle Manti T'eo and where and when he might get drafted, and whether he's fallen too far on the mock drafts. They put on their GM hats and say whether either of them would draft Geno Smith or Matt Barkley as a QB of the future. The last few minutes are used discussing whether the Portsmouth Invitational performance of Brandon Davies did anything for his NBA draft stock.

Wednesday Apr 10, 2013
Wednesday Apr 10, 2013
Spring has come (even if Mother Nature hasn't noticed), and spring football is now a memory. In the 107th episode of this grand podcast, we're joined by Brandon Gurney of the Deseret News to recap the spring football story lines, focusing primarily on offensive coordinator Robert Anae's new offense (and his media sensibilities). We also dive into the QB and RB positions, and Brandon expresses some concerns about the defense. Matt and Adam then hand out basketball postseason awards, singing the praises of Tyler Haws, Brandon Davies, Josh Sharp, Matt Carlino and Bronson Kaufusi. They talk spring football by playing a game of Over/Under and by answering your #Tweetbag questions. They also briefly discuss Adam's ranking of Riley Nelson's 2012 season.

106: The (NIT) Final Four and Spring Football
Monday Apr 01, 2013
Monday Apr 01, 2013
Adam and Matt kick-off the podcast with a 15-minute MLB preview, including predicting all playoff teams, the World Series, the MVPs, and the Cy Young award winners. Don't like baseball? What's wrong with you? It's then onto the NIT. What has gotten into the Cougars? A little Matt Carlino fever, that's what. The boys break down exactly what BYU needs to do to get past the Baylor Bears. Hint: It includes a heavy dose of one Mr. Brandon Davies. And lastly, they talk about the spring football game and what we learned and didn't learn about the Cougars. And does it matter if Robert Anae gets along with the media?

105: Spring football and an NIT run
Tuesday Mar 26, 2013
Tuesday Mar 26, 2013
Spring is in the air, and despite snow covering most of our listening public, we bring the warmth via podcast. First up it's Adam and Matt responding to a long listener question about what exactly it would take to get them revved up enough to promote firing a coach. Not much for Matt, as BYU welcomes back the OC who he wanted fired. Second, they chat about the spring football game and what they hope to learn from it. They finish off with a discussion of BYU's NIT run and whether a victory over Southern Miss redeems the lackluster season. Oh, and Adam serenades listeners with Huey Lewis and the News. A special guest joins the podcast, an unveiling of the man behind the @PostJimmer Twitter account. Steve Pierce comes on to preach the Matt Carlino gospel and to defend Brock Zylstra. As is always the case, Adam grills him and makes him uncomfortable and turns it into awkward podcastery. Or he mainly agrees with him. One or the other.

104: NIT preview and spring QBs
Monday Mar 18, 2013
Monday Mar 18, 2013
The first topic in the 104th episode is BYU is the NIT -- and Adam and Matt like the Cougars' chances to make a deep run in the tournament (though not all the way to Madison Square Garden). They also share their Final Four predictions and gleefully pick against Indiana. After the basketball talk, they break into a discussion about the QB situation and how that's playing out in spring practice. It looks like Taysom Hill is the man -- is that a good thing? They finish with a discussion of their favorite movie trilogies.

103: BYU's NIT hopes; Ziggy shaken, not stirred
Thursday Mar 14, 2013
Thursday Mar 14, 2013
It's a slow BYU sports news week, but does that stop Matt and Adam from delivering an awesome podcast? Of course not! In the 103rd episode they explore BYU's chances at a deep NIT run, and they don't like what they find. Ziggy's skyrocketing on draft boards, and the boys gush over his supernal physical abilities. There is also talk of scheduling announcements, BYU's high tempo offense, some pretty lame personal stories, and advice on how to coach little league baseball. They also explore their favorite James Bond movies, including a stunning revelation by Matt.

102: Jason Franchuk on WCC tourney and spring football
Tuesday Mar 05, 2013
Tuesday Mar 05, 2013
It's a big week in BYU sports, and this podcast has it all covered. Jason Franchuk makes his second ever appearance on the podcast to discuss BYU's chances in the upcoming WCC Tournament. Can Matt Carlino deliver? Is there more pressure on BYU than Gonzaga or St. Mary's? Jason answers. He also dives into some of the major topics surrounding spring football and enlightens us about the new offensive coaching staff. Matt and Adam then preview the entire WCC Tournament, making bold (and baseless) predictions. How far do they think BYU will go? Listen and find out. They also conduct a draft of three movies they must see in 2013. Spoiler alert: Adam's movie selections are very geeky.

101: Zags Preview, Ziggy turns heads
Tuesday Feb 26, 2013
Tuesday Feb 26, 2013
We know you missed us on our week off, but we make up for it by covering 95.7% of all BYU sporting news. First up, we preview Gonzaga, and state the obvious: the Zags are really good, and BYU is not as good. We then make room on the Ezekiel Ansah bandwagon for a host of new riders from the national media. Other questions answered on this podcast: What will the new offensive coaching staff mean for BYU football in 2013? And is Tom Holmoe being clear enough on Twitter about BYU's intentions regarding the Big 12? We also answer your #Tweetbag questions.

100: Greg Wrubell on hoops and Jay Monsen
Tuesday Feb 12, 2013
Tuesday Feb 12, 2013
It's a super-sized 100th episode filled with facts. Fact: The Rise & Shout podcast is now 100 episodes old. Fact: Greg Wrubell comes on the podcast for his 13th time, which makes him kind of a regular. Greg chats about whether it's a fact that BYU is out of March Madness contention, and whether it's a fact that BYU is just not deep enough after Brandon Davies, Tyler Haws, and Matt Carlino. He also pays tribute to legendary BYU sports announcer Jay Monsen. Fact: Matt then joins the podcast. Fact: They talk a lot of baseball, which is really awesome (opinion), including the reversal of fortunes between Matt's teams (the Nationals) and Adam's team (the Red Sox). Fact: They answer a lot of #Tweetbag questions. Fact: This episode is really long. Fact: It's super awesome.

99: Jay Drew on football recruiting, Carlino
Tuesday Feb 05, 2013
Tuesday Feb 05, 2013
In the 99th episode of the greatest BYU sports podcast produced in Minnesota, we welcome back Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune. We chat with him about the football recruiting class, Robert Anae's offensive coaching staff (or lack thereof) and the resurgent Matt Carlino. Matt and Adam then revisit their worst sports movie discuss, and decide which movie from 1999 they'd take with them if stuck on a desert island. The boys also discuss recruiting, and wonder if Carlino's upside is what we thought it might be a year ago.
